Another year is drawing to a close. As is the custom, we (as a society) like to look back on what’s happened in the previous 300+ days and to make plans for how we can improve things for the new year to come. As a company that understands the needs for on-the-job safety, we suggest that safety and safety training should be one of those things you look at and plan for.
When you look back on 2017 take note of whether or not your company had any incidents or even close calls. What about your industry? Are there any trends in safety challenges. Each year we attend safety conferences and receive statistics that discuss the many accidents that could and should have been preventable.
What about certifications? Are you aware that most safety training courses have recertification dates? Make sure your HR department keeps track of these dates. For individuals, check your own certificates as they should have the recertification date on them. If you are a former BC Hazmat Management client, watch for an email from us reminding you of your recertification requirement. If you’ve changed your contact information, please give us a call with your new details.
Now is a great time to start planning and creating your 2018 training schedule:
- · Who needs recertification?
- · What about new employee orientation and training?
- · Occupational Health & Safety committee members require training.
- · Have you had any changes to product lines or activities in your company that now require additional safety training?
- · Do you have an emergency preparedness plan? Is your staff trained to use it?
By planning ahead you will achieve your 2018 training goals and the odds of you or your company showing up as a statistic on a WorkSafeBC bulletin will be that much lower.
