2017 EcoStar Awards: Winners Announced
The Following is a copy of the press release announcing the winners of the 2017 EcoStar awards. BC Hazmat Management was thrilled and honored to receive the Waste Management Award for our efforts protecting the environment during spills.
Shining a spotlight on outstanding environmental achievements and leadership by businesses, organizations, and individuals, the third annual EcoStar Awards took place on Thursday, November 16th, 2017. The Gala was hosted by Synergy Sustainability Institute at the Inn at Laurel Point and had over 75 businesses in attendance, including representatives from the Pacific Rim, Cowichan Valley, Nanaimo, Parksville, and the Greater Victoria area.
The 2017 EcoStar Gold Sponsors were Patagonia and Tourism Victoria. Individual Awards were sponsored by The City of Victoria, Peter B. Gustavson School of Business – Centre for Social and Sustainable Innovation, Downtown Victoria Business Association, Sysco Victoria, Capital Regional District, Monk Office, Business Development Bank of Canada, Vancity, Greater Victoria Harbour Authority, and Autonomous Furniture. Douglas Magazine was the media sponsor, the Inn at Laurel Point provided the venue, and Metropol sponsored much of the print material.
During the Gala, winners were revealed and were called up on stage to accept their award.
Twenty amazing winners for 19 great awards. For the first time in EcoStar Awards history there was a tie. This was for the Community Leadership Award which recognizes a business or organization that has contributed to the environmental movement and sparked changed throughout Vancouver Island. As the judges scores for Pacific Industrial & Marine and The Truffles Group were only decimal points a part, it was determined that both should receive the award for their remarkable contributions to our island communities.
One of the features of the evening was the silent auction, which included items donated by community partner businesses. Tree Top Tree provided the music, and BASH Specialty created an inviting ambiance with their upcycled modern lounge furnishings. Whole Foods Market sponsored the feature cocktail- “Rescued Apple Ricky,” which used ingredients from their Food Rescue Program.
Applications for the 2018 EcoStar Awards will open in June 2018, and tickets will be on sale in the late summer.
