HAZWOPER 8 HR Refresher Course
This course is for anyone who has completed a 40-Hour HAZWOPER training course or 8-Hour Refresher Course within the last year. A copy of your current certificate must be submitted to BCHAZMAT Management Ltd. with your registration.
If you are working in a Hazardous Materials area, Spill Cleanup or Brownfield Remediation you will need to be able to recognize hazards in that type of workplace, and in the event of a spill, be able to respond effectively while showing due diligence. The 40 Hour Training you have previously received, has shown you how to protect yourself, evaluate the situation, isolate the area, stop the leak, clean up and decontaminate the area. This 8 hour refresher will introduce you to new procedures, make you safer, and refresh your skills.
Our training is compliant with the requirements of the OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.120 HAZWOPER, and has been updated to include Canadian WorkSafeBC Regulation Part 6 including Controlling Exposures and Emergency Procedures. Successful completion of the classroom and practical exercises will award the attendee certification for the course, which is recognized in Canada and the United States. Course content is also compliant with the current recommendations for Oil Spill Responders. DCC and PWGSC are now requiring contractors to have this certification to qualify for some tenders involving hazmat.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Predict the type and severity of a spill or release.
- Select the Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) needed
- Formulate a contingency Planning Process
- Plan ways to complete the Spill Response
- Select and use the correct Emergency Response Guide
- Describe, evaluate, and communicate the type of spill
