The City of Victoria engaged our services from 2007 – 2010 to manage their Stormwater Discharge Bylaw. The Bylaw and related information can be found on the City of Victoria’s website. More than 3000 properties became compliant with the Bylaw during this time. We are proud to have been a part of this successful program to reduce runoff pollution in our waters.

The intent of this bylaw is to reduce pollution in our waters originating from automotive businesses, parking lots, restaurants and other operations, by controlling surface run-off to the city storm sewer system. These operations are required to have a spill response plan, a spill kit, and monitoring point in the catch basin(s) which feed directly to the city. Catch basins are to be checked at least once a year for contaminants and solids, and cleaned out when needed. Too much sediment in the bottom of the catch basin will impede the flow of runoff water and could cause flooding. Records are to be kept , and if a spill should occur, records must be kept of that, as well.

Containers of liquids that are stored must be covered, secured (to prevent tipping), protected from vehicle impact and on secondary containment (in case of leakage).

Used cooking oil / grease is one of the areas of concern when it is stored outside, unsecured, in an unprotected location without secondary containment. Spills of cooking oil can be extremely costly to clean up.
